Florence is my goddess
The show was better than I could have ever imagined. She connected with the audience, banged her drum, and danced as an angel, singing most of her songs. I love her so bad. Amazing. My only gripe is there seemed to be no significant enough upward grade at the ground level for my short stature, making it difficult to see the stage. I see now the album is appropriately titled Lungs. I couldn't keep my eyes off her when I was able to see her. Her band is amazing, as she is. The theater is exponentially better than any other indoor venue in the Bay Area- beautiful and friendly staff. We had a bit of a scare after the show. The parking lot we used was shady. The people left before we got back to the car. We gave them the key. After a frantic hour thinking we were stranded in Oakland, we found a piece of paper with a number on it next to the car. It was the attendant's phone number. We called, and he told us where he hid the key in the lot. Not okay. Crazy. Also not okay, while thinking we were scammed and stranded, the Fox staff wasn't so friendly or helpful. One of the employees at the bar attached to the theater said he would go talk to someone about what we should do, if something like that happens often, etc..... he never came back. There were no signage with hours of operation, and the attendant DID NOT tell us the lot closed at midnight. We then tried to get some guidance from a security guard. He ultimately said we were screwed and that, because the lot was not on the same block as the theater, it was not his problem. In the end, everything worked out- an unforgettable evening. I also want to mention that I appreciated the show wasn't canceled with the threat of violence in the streets from Mehserle sentencing earlier that day. Hats off to the numerous (at least 50 from what I saw) riot police officers, who were a mere 2 blocks from the venue, for handling the protests and rioting quickly and efficiently.
